Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
In 2024 our library foundation partnered with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Each child living in Franklin County, from birth up to age five and registered in the program, will receive in the mail a quality, age-appropriate book every month, and at no cost to the child’s family.
A child’s early years are formative for learning, language, and literacy. When parents and children read together, bonds strengthen and the reading, language, and learning network in a child’s brain is strengthened. Interactive reading and book ownership help lay the foundation for future success in school and in life and love of reading. We hope this program encourages families to come to our libraries to check out even more books and to get library cards for the children when they turn five.
Quality age-appropriate books.

How Does This Work?
With the Dollywood Foundation administering and paying for most of the program, and the Commonwealth of Virginia expected to continue paying half our local-affiliate program costs, our library foundation is responsible for $1.30 a month, or $15.60 a year, per registered child.
The estimated number of eligible children in Franklin County is around 2,500*. As of Summer 2024 we have over 1,000 children registered!
A commitment to recurring donations will help ensure the success of this program for years to come. Your generosity will have a significant impact.
